The Rockwell Museum is devoted to displaying artwork created by students from local school districts in collaboration with art teachers and professional artists. Student Exhibitions are on view in The Rockwell’s Student Gallery and KIDS ROCKWELL Art Lab at various times throughout the year.
Our educators have a long tradition of partnering with schools, community organizations, and statewide agencies to present a robust schedule of exhibitions of art created by students Pre-K–12 and college from across the region.

Sweet, sweet competition.
The Annual Gingerbread Invitational is an exhibition of artful gingerbread creations by baking enthusiasts and community members of all skill levels. Make a visit to The Rockwell part of your family’s holiday tradition by casting your vote for the Community Choice Award! Plus, find seasonal gingerbread-themed activities for kids throughout the Museum and Art Lab.
How It Works
- Individuals or teams submit an application, including a design sketch, responding to the annual theme
- Up to 12 submissions are selected to be featured in the Gingerbread Invitational exhibition – each artist/team has approximately 1 month to create their design and drop it off at The Rockwell Museum. Each team is awarded a $50 honorarium to help compensate them for their materials.
- Once the exhibition opens for the season (Thanksgiving through New Years Day), visitors to The Rockwell vote on their favorite gingerbread creations – the winner of the coveted Community Choice Award takes home a $500 prize and a hand-crafted trophy by ceramic artist Colleen McCall.
Get Involved
This year, Rockwell programming and exhibitions revolve around the theme of Paradise. Check back this fall for entry forms and contest deadlines.

A space for contemporary perspectives.
ANTIGRAVITY creates an annual opportunity for emerging artists to present a site-specific installation in the Museum rotunda, that greets visitors and provides an unexpected surprise as they enter. Each spring, one artist is selected to create an original work of art that responds to the rotunda’s unique architectural space, our historic building and the Museum’s American art collection.
Part of the Antigravity Project includes a collaboration with our sister organization, the Corning Museum of Glass. Antigravity artists are invited to participate as guest designers-in-residence at the Amphitheater Hot Shop. During the residency, they work alongside expert glassblowers who craft the designer’s artistic vision in glass and bring it to life.
