About The Bands

Born in the Finger Lakes, Outland County is a Roots Americana band featuring original songs and unique arrangements of traditional tunes.  Using elements of bluegrass, old time, country and rockabilly, Outland County fuses the old sound into a new one, incorporating thumping slap bass and chugging drums into a bluegrass tune.  Listen to the lyrics, and you might find some wisdom in that slow, swampy blues groove with words that make you think.  Get ready to dance, listen and enjoy! With local members (some formerly of The Cabin Killers & The Younger Gang), the band features:

  • Aaron Lipp (Naples, NY) – Lead vocals, acoustic & electric guitar, banjo, and harmonica
  • Jimmy Grillo (Rochester, NY) – Drums and percussion
  • Gabe Schliffer (Middlesex, NY) – Fiddle, cello, and backing vocals
  • Ryan Yarmel (Honeoye, NY) – Upright bass

Red Dog Run and Bronwen Exter Trio – For its 40th Anniversary, The Rockwell is pleased to host this extra-special Rockwell Roadhouse featuring two of the region’s most impressive acts! On the main stage, enjoy the lively Red Dog Run – a group of veteran musicians and old friends, exploring the depths of American roots music with high energy. In the third-floor lounge, we’ll feature the Bronwen Exter Trio for a sultry, ethereal blend of Americana music.

Red Dog Run is a group of veteran musicians and old friends who have spent most of their lives exploring the depths of American roots music.  The band features four artists: Jim Miller (singer and guitarist) is well known in the Americana music scene for being a founding member of Donna the Buffalo, as well as for his recordings with musicians such as Tim O’Brien, Jim Lauderdale, Ginny Hawker and Dirk Powell.  Richie Stearns (banjo, vocals), a legendary clawhammer banjo player, is a founding member of The Horse Flies, tours with Natalie Merchant, and performs with Bela Fleck as part of the New York Banjo Project.  He has recorded with a long list of artists including Carrie Rodriguez, John Doyle, and Hank Roberts.  Rosie Newton (fiddle and vocals) plays in a duo with Richie, performs internationally with Ferintosh, Preston Frank, and The Pearly Snaps, and teaches at music camps across the U.S.  Jed Greenberg (bass and vocals) is a leading member of the old-time band The Buvas and toured with Donna the Buffalo for eight years.  Each member of Red Dog Run contributes a rich and varied musical history that draws on their many personal musical inspirations, including Folk, Rock, Old Time, New Wave, Country, Celtic, and Cajun/Creole, as well as on their own compositions.  In collaboration, they use these influences to create new ways of expressing the angst and energy of modern life.

Bronwen Exter, Jennifer Middaugh and Jason Shegogue make up the Bronwen Exter Trio, blending two voices and two electric guitars for a cool, ethereal ride. The craft of the songwriting, gorgeous harmonies, Americana lounge spirit, a little bit of rock and a lot of silky vocal attitude make this a show not to miss.
