The Rockwell Museum is pleased to present Earth and Sky: The Ceramic Art of Wayne Higby as our summer exhibition.

Geology meets chemistry in this exhibition, exploring the forms, techniques, and firing processes used throughout Higby’s career, including groundbreaking work in American raku earthenware and porcelain. Join us for one or all of these exciting opportunities to interact with artist Wayne Higby and his work.

Earth and Sky: The Ceramic Art of Wayne Higby will be on view at The Rockwell, May 18 – September 4, 2018. The Rockwell is open daily, open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the summer months. Rockwell Members, CCC students, kids/teens 17 and under are always free. The Museum is once again participating in the Blue Star Museums program, offering free Museum admission to all active military and their families, Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Wayne Higby and Richard Parrish3. New Perspectives on the American Landscape: Art + Science Panel Discussion
Wednesday, May 23, 2018 | 6 – 7 p.m.

Exploring the intersection of art and science in the final lecture of the series, this panel discussion will feature two contemporary artists in The Rockwell’s permanent collection. Moderated by The Rockwell’s Executive Director, Brian Lee Whisenhunt, two artists explore a wide range of topics, including architecture, conservation, material science, concepts of space and sociopolitical factors. Join award-winning ceramicist and educator Wayne Higby and glass artist and architect Richard Parrish, as they discuss the role of art and science in shaping the American landscape. Advance registration is recommended; walk-ins welcome.

4. See Wayne Higby as a Guest Artist at Corning Museum of Glass
Monday, June 11 – Friday 15, 2018 | Daily, 10 a.m. – Noon, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Building on a tradition of collaboration, The Rockwell Museum and Corning Museum of Glass are pleased to once again team up and host a contemporary artist in Corning. This summer, we welcome ceramic artist Wayne Higby to the Amphitheater Hot Shop where he will work with glass for the very first time. Higby will work collaboratively with the Hot Glass team of The Corning Museum of Glass as part of the Guest Artist Series to experiment with new ideas and processes.

5. Rockwell Members-Only Excursion to Alfred University Ceramic Museum
Thursday, June 28, 2018 | 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Rockwell Members are invited to attend a day trip to the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum. Attendees will have a VIP experience with behind-the-scenes access to museum storage, a permanent collection tour with the Curator of Collections, and a private visit with Wayne Higby to see his installation, EarthCloud, the largest hand-cut porcelain, architectural installation in the world. Your ticket purchase includes transportation, snacks, all museum admission including behind-the-scenes tours and lunch. Space is limited!
