Alley Art Project

The Alley Art Project represents a long and successful partnership between The Rockwell and the High School Learning Center of the Corning-Painted Post Area School District; in recent years the collaboration has grown to include Corning Community College.

The organizations work together with the support of guest artists in developing stunning murals inspired by The Rockwell’s collection. The murals are designed and painted by area high school and college Students earn credits toward their high school diploma or college transcript while working with Rockwell educators, cultivating a sense of pride, ownership, and connection to the Corning community.

We believe public art has the power to bring people together, inspire conversation and ignite the imagination.

Smithsonian Learning Lab

Use the Smithsonian Learning Lab to view the murals in downtown Corning, New York, and learn about The Rockwell’s collection inspiration for each mural design. Discover how Rockwell educators and teaching artists work together with students to incorporate symbolism and ideas into meaningful works of public art. Each mural masterpiece shares a story that reveals a new perspective, provokes awareness, questions identity, and disrupts daily routines by activating public spaces with visually stimulating art.
