Community Collaborative Creation: Anniversary Artist Book with Anna Warfield

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Rockwell Museum’s presence in our community, fiber artist Anna Warfield will host a series of 45-minute, hands-on community workshops in which participants look at and respond to preselected artwork from the Museum’s collection. Participants’ responses will contribute to pages and spreads, ultimately resulting in a collaboratively generated artist book. 

Each workshop, open to a maximum of 20 participants, begins with a brief presentation on a pair of pre-selected artworks and an introduction to the collaborative artist book. Warfield will guide participants in a short discussion about the artwork, opening possibilities for their own creative responses. After an introduction to artist books, participants respond by re-creating elements of the artwork, generating patterns, creating words or short poems, focusing on textures, or however they see fit. After creative time, participants will work together on laying out the spread of pages with their collectively created elements.

Following the day of workshops, Warfield will take the book elements to their studio, affix them, and finish the book with a felt binding including all contributors’ names.

About Anna Warfield 

Anna Warfield is a fiber artist interested in tactility, engagement, and storytelling. Artist books are central to their practice — vessels that share stories and ideas in intimate ways. Past artist books include Womb (2017, muslin and embroidery floss), Fruit (II) (2017, muslin and dehydrated fruit), and Stroke (2023, conductive fiber and interactive electronics). Warfield’s work has been exhibited at Cornell University’s Tjaden Gallery and The Rockwell Museum.
