The Rockwell Museum presents a 7th grade student exhibition in collaboration with art teacher Kendra Echevarria at The Alternative School for Math & Science (ASMS). The student work is inspired by works of art in the Museum’s collection and its annual theme of “Color!”
Students visited The Rockwell in January to explore how colors can communicate and symbolize an important message, idea, or emotion in a work of art. Students were also prompted to think about color in relation to history, geography, and the traditions of different groups of people.
In their choice-based art class, students experimented with color, media, techniques, and artistic processes to create their own art that incorporates symbolism. The students’ work expresses ideas that represent their personal identities and experiences. The choice-based art curriculum at ASMS allows students to pursue their artistic style and use materials they are curious about, catering to their individual interests and needs. On view in this exhibition are the students’ one-of-a-kind colorful creations.
