The impact Andy Warhol’s work continues to have on contemporary artists establishes him as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. His revolutionary approach to the process of making art changed the way artists work, the tools they use, and who was deemed qualified to be an artist. Warhol drew inspiration from the commercial world around him, creating icons of materialism that questioned the consumer culture of America. Become part of the Art Factory yourself with take-home projects and activities within the exhibition.

In this special installation, you’ll also find recently-acquired works by Japanese-American artist Roger Shimomura (born 1939), who pays homage to Warhol with his two works, Liz and Marilyn. Shimomura combines the highly recognizable styles of Japanese woodblock printmaking and Warhol’s characteristic aesthetic to challenge American stereotypes of female beauty crafted by Hollywood.
