    Friday, September 30 | 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. UAC_rockwell
FREE and open to the public

To kick it off the season 2016-2017 Urban Arts Crawl Season, The Rockwell celebrates two very special milestones in honor of its 40th Anniversary!

    FIRST…

    1. Meet us at Capn’ Morgans ( 36 Bridge Street, Corning) where will be unveiling our latest Alley Art Project mural – a special 40th Anniversary project and collaboration between acclaimed artist Virgil Ortiz and Corning’s own High School Learning Center Students. The paint may still be drying, but we plan to honor this important artwork with a ribbon cutting during September’s Urban Arts Crawl. Join us in celebrating this brand new public art piece. Ribbon cutting at 5:15 pm.

    THEN…

    2. Join us for the public opening reception of The Rockwell’s celebratory 40th Anniversary exhibition! Guest artists Steven Ladd  and William Ladd were asked to curate an exhibition that reflects their American experience. The brothers mined The Rockwell Museum’s collection in order to create 40 visual stories. Each object has been installed in a unique grouping designed to alter its original meaning, encouraging us to view them in a new light. In 40 for 40, the artistic creation is the new context rather than the objects themselves. Kirsty Buchanan, Curator of Collections, will be available in the gallery from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

     What is Urban Arts Crawl?

The Urban Arts Crawl celebrates the burgeoning, unique art scene in historic Downtown Corning, each month presenting distinct artists, exhibitions, and cultural experiences. A self-guided, art-centric trail held on the final Friday of each month (September through May), The Crawl includes stops at internationally acclaimed museums, community art centers and independent galleries alike.

Artist talks, demonstrations, exhibition openings, modern dance performances, public art projects, live music, craft beverage tastings and more make The Crawl a truly festive and diverse experience. Whether you’re a seasoned art collector or just out to see something different, the Urban Arts Crawl in Corning will delight your creative side.

Each month, Urban Corning wraps up the evening for the post-crawl meet-up! Plan to spend your evening on Historic Market Street with various social opportunities at local bars and restaurants post-crawl. Learn more at urbancorning.com/urban-arts-crawl
