This Spring Break, The Rockwell Museum makes it easy to get out of the house and into meaningful family fun. Enjoy your stay-cation with a different artful activity each day of the week, totally free of charge. No reservations required for these fascinating drop-in experiences.

As always, drop in with the family any time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to explore the galleries with an Art Hunt and get creative in our Family Exploration Studio. Kids and teens 17 and under are always free!

Monday, March 30: Create Your Own Buffalo Hide
    10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Native Americans of the Northern Plains region wore buffalo hides that were often painted with symbols.  They recorded important events in the history of their tribes on animal hides.  Tell your story by designing your own hide.

    Tuesday, March 31: Clay Play
    10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Have fun shaping, molding, squishing, pressing, stamping and rolling the mud from the Earth.  Explore the techniques of pottery by sculpting an animal, a pot, or a creation of your own imagining!

Learn to draw like the masters! Sketching in the galleries using real artwork as inspiration is the perfect way to practice your drawing skills.

Wednesday, April 1: Sketching in the Galleries
    10:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m.

Learn how to draw animals with sketch artist Marty Breinlinger.  Be inspired from the artwork that surrounds you and observe the many hidden animals in the paintings and sculptures on display.  Set-up your own still life in the Education Center and try drawing it!

Thursday, April 2: Nature-Themed Scratch Art
    10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Carve away the surface of your canvas to draw a picture.  Think of springtime; flowers blooming, animals coming out of hibernation, snow melting and new growth.  Each mark on your canvas reveals the rainbow of colors found in nature.
