    Student Exhibition Opening Reception

    5 – 6:30 p.m. | Opening remarks to begin at 5:15 p.m.
Free and open to family and friends of HSLC students. Refreshments will be served.

Join us as we celebrate the opening of a new student exhibition and unveil the 2019 design for the Alley Art Project. A bronze sculpture in The Rockwell’s collection, Harmony by artist Tammy Garcia, served as inspiration for students to design a mural that tells a collective story about their future hopes and dreams, reflecting on their place within their community.

Incorporated into the design are symbols that students created connected to their personal identities representing challenges, choices, protection, fragility of life, transformation, potential for the future and mental well-being. This student exhibition opening reception will unveil the 2019 mural design, and celebrate the completion of the 2018 mural, The Art of Industrious Minds

This project is made possible in part by grants from The Triangle Fund, The Great Circle Foundation Inc. and William G. McGowan Charitable Fund.

    About the Alley Art Project

The Alley Art Project is a result of a decade-long partnership between The Rockwell and the High School Learning Center of the Corning-Painted Post Area School District. The program supports
students in learning about art, design and the research associated with the process of art
making – all the while cultivating a sense of pride, ownership and connection to the community.
Students fulfill their mandatory Art credit through their work at The Rockwell.
