The Rockwell Museum
Free and open to educators, family and friends of HSLC students | Refreshments will be provided
Please join us for an afternoon of masks, music, movement and monologues! This culminating event of a special multi-media art program provides students an opportunity for self-reflection and community-building with their peers, teachers, professional artists and musicians. The Identity and the Artist program is developed and taught in collaboration with Community Based Arts Practitioner, Meghan O’Toole and musicians Jennifer Johnson and Lou Vogel.
Each year, students use The Rockwell’s art collection to serve as inspiration to create paper-maché masks and write personal monologues. The holistic creative process encourages students to build meaningful relationships and incorporate nature-themed metaphors and symbols into their art connected to their identities. Students will read their monologues while their classmates interpret their masks through movement, accompanied by live music.
This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, The Triangle Fund, and the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.
