Visit The Rockwell Museum’s station in front of the Art Lab during Corning’s Harvest Festival and make a paper flower to celebrate the harvest. Artist Gloria Peters will be leading the flower project. She is of Mexican descent and partners with The Rockwell annually for the Museum’s Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration each year. Traditionally, families start preparing and building an ofrenda (offering) at the end of September, and during October, families prepare for the Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration, observed on November 1, when loved ones who have passed away are honored. Paper flowers and cempasuchil (Mexican marigolds) flowers are traditional items that are part of an ofrenda. Make a colorful paper flower to celebrate the fruits of this harvest season and think about how you prepare for annual celebrations in your family.
