Explore the Museum galleries and engage with art!

Open to the public | Included with Museum admission
    Suggested ages 5 to 12

Drop in anytime to participate in art-making workshops, self-guided gallery games and activities all connected to weekly themes about what sparks our imagination and inspires us to create art.

This week: Geometric Printmaking | Inspired by the geometric colors, lines and patterns of Helen Hardin’s artwork in The Rockwell Museum’s collection, create your own printed artwork. Carve shapes and designs into a piece of foam and transfer your image with brightly colored inks to paper. Add another layer of painted shapes with special hand-carved stamps inspired by design elements in Hardin’s art. Have fun playing with layers of paint in this exploration of color and geometry.

About Teaching Artist Katie Reilly | Katie Reilly is an artist in Corning, NY. She is a member of the Guest Services team at The Rockwell Museum and hopes to continue working in a museum environment in her future. Katie is a High School Learning Center graduate, former Rockwell Museum Student Intern and is currently pursuing a degree in Art History. Through her career and education experience, she has contributed to community art projects in multiple capacities. She helped paint two Alley Art Project murals in downtown Corning and was a student designer for the 2020 Earth Mother mural located on the building façade of Carey’s Brew House, 58 Bridge Street. Katie is inspired by her time working alongside Rockwell educators to provide arts educational experiences to youth in the community.

    The Summer Explorers program includes…

    • Spy, Think, Ponder art card sets highlight works of art in The Rockwell’s collection, tied to the weekly theme. The art cards incorporate youth-friendly language and fun prompts to engage your child’s imagination. Families will be exposed to using Visual Thinking Strategies in their museum experience by looking, making observations, thinking about what they see and wondering more about the topics presented.
    • Art Hunts are a great way to search the Museum galleries and find details in the artwork.
    • Simple gallery games and activities will stimulate self-guided exploration with loved ones to foster art appreciation as well as excitement to discover artwork on view.
    • Art-making workshops with Rockwell Educators and guest artists will be available to family visitors in our Education Center. The projects will encourage families to experiment with different media to make their own art inspired by the art on view.
